Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our established senior team.

Supporting the Labour Ward Coordinators on the night shifts to ensure safety across the unit.

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical member of the Midwifery team. They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to ensure delivery of high quality, safe, and compassionate evidence based care. They will work closely with others to ensure that care delivery takes place in a suitable and safe environment to support the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, women, birthing people and families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical member of the Midwifery team on night shifts. They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to ensure delivery of high quality, safe, and compassionate evidence based care. They will work closely with others to ensure that care delivery takes place in a suitable and safe environment to support the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, women, birthing people and families.

As an NMC registrant they will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be open, transparent and trustworthy and uphold the NMC Code of Conduct. They will facilitate the learning and development of others.

Job responsibilities

Provide clinical leadership and maintain a high profile in the clinical areas providing expert clinical midwifery support as needed.

To act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills.

Contribute to the management of the ward/department budget by ensuring effective use of physical, human and financial resources.

Support the management of vulnerable adults, young people and children; safeguarding and deprivation of liberty issues, in consultation with the wider MDT.

To create and maintain an effective communication system between all staff groups working in Maternity Services and to ensure that a positive working environment is achieved.

To proactively take part in the Trust Governance agenda. Participate in audit and reporting on quality standards. Identify risk and prepare and implement action plans to improve quality of services.

Participate in Senior Midwife unit on call rota / bleep holder as directed.

Coordinate Born Before Arrival (BBA) calls and in utero transfer requests in partnership with the wider MDT.

Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups, and staff within the Division and the Trust

Ensure that all students are working in a positive learning culture and environment.

Provide line management support to a designated caseload.

To ensure that complaints and incidents are managed proactively. Investigate incidents and complaints and provide reports as required. Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate associated action plans in collaboration with the Senior Midwifery team.

To support area leads in ensuring maternity areas meets Ward Accreditation and CQC standards and is able to evidence those key lines of criteria to a high standard.
