Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has been commissioned by NHS England to provide a comprehensive gender surgery centre including masculinising lower surgery, masculinising chest and feminising lower surgery. Our vision is for an innovative and patient-centred service, based on the principle that patients must have equal access to surgical services whatever their gender identity with reasonable adjustments to the delivery of care to match the individual's needs and circumstances.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality clinical services within the context of a clinical governance framework. The Clinical Nurse Specialists will be integral to promoting a high quality service to individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria and ensure that the services provided promote respect, dignity and equality for trans people.

Working across the Planned Care and Specialist Care Divisions the post holder will be responsible for providing senior clinical nursing leadership and professional development to the nursing and support worker teams across the clinical areas. The post holder will provide professional advice and support to the wider multidisciplinary team in the pre, peri and post-operative care of patients following gender affirmation surgery. In conjunction with specialist Gender Dysphoria clinics across the country, the post will ensure timely and effective treatments including post-surgical care.

They will develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area in conjunction with the specialist MDT teams.
