Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 2 Maternity Support Worker to join our Unit on a Full-Time and permanent basis. Part time and flexible working hours are also considered.

These posts will be based on our Chelsea site.

Main duties of the job

The support worker in Maternity will provide environmental, physical and social support to midwives, women/birthing people and their families within Queen Mary Maternity Unit, West Middlesex University Hospital.

The post holder will work under the direction of the midwifery staff to support all clinical staff in providing a comfortable, clean and safe environment for service users.

If you wish to progress to become a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker completion of a Level 3 Maternity Support Worker Apprenticeship will be required. This is a formal qualification and is part of a National Standard which takes 15 to 24 months to complete. We will support you to complete this.

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you will become a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker in the Trust and your job description will be updated accordingly.

Education/Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to accurately document findings and care in patient records
  • Numeracy and Literacy - Functional Skills Level 1 (minimum)
  • Recent experience of working within a customer focused environment
  • Able to ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Desirable

  • IT/Computer skills
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • Ability to perform observations and escalate accordingly
  • Previous experience of venepuncture
