An exciting opportunity has arisen for an 18 month fixed term contract/secondment as the Band 7 Lead for the private midwifery-led care service on the Kensington Wing, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
The well esteemed private maternity service on the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital site cares for up to 1,000 families per year, and proudly includes within this a midwifery-led package that ensures continuity of carer, family-centered support in a bespoke and personalised approach.

Main duties of the job
The Lead Midwife for the Midwifery-led care team on the Kensington Wing will work alongside the senior team to support:
- The coordination of the weekly midwifery-led care antenatal clinic
- The reformation and subsequent coordination of a bespoke community postnatal package
- The coordination and organisation of link Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Rostering the midwifery-led care team, supporting continuity of carer and staff work-life balance
- Co-ordination/in charge of the Kensington Wing throughout the working week
- Ensuring high standard of clinical care within the ward environment
- Line management of midwives/support workers within the unit
- Working closely with quality and safety lead to respond to incidents, complaints and safety issues alongside leading on quality improvement projects
- Recruitment and retention of midwives and support workers

Management Line management of Midwifery Led Care Team Lead and support MLC service, based within the private maternity unit, having direct responsibility for overseeing the care package. Ensuring appropriate staff covers through staff rostering. Cover for Matron as and when required. Identify and propose recommendations and work closely with Operations Manager to deliver initiatives to improve current service offering. Co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary approach within the Trust Maternity Services, in all issues relating to Midwifery Led Care and the delivery of a recognised standard of care across all areas of the maternity services. Utilise risk management strategy to ensure related policies and guidelines are implemented effectively through clinical governance processes. Provide and present annual reports, detailing performance of MLC provision with Private Maternity. Provide effective leadership and act as a good role model. Awareness of financial issues related to the provision of services and the implementation of new developments. Be aware of local and national maternity strategy and how this will shape the future of maternity services including working in partnership with other providers. Assess the existing provision of postnatal community care within the private maternity services and further establish and project manage the infrastructure that will deliver a level of service which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the demands of the service.
Patient Care To maintain skills and expertise and be responsible for the management of MLC patients. Provide specialist counselling information, support and advice to women and their partners as needed. Work closely with consultants and midwives to ensure appropriate management and continuity of care for women.
