Job summary

As a registered, accountable and autonomous senior midwife to act in the best interests of your patients at all times and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.

To be responsible for assessment, planning of care, implementing and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care on the Lunar Birth Centre of the maternity unit.

To be responsible for promoting and facilitating a positive Patient Experience.

As an NMC registrant facilitate learning and development of others. You will demonstrate leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy.

Main duties of the job

Have delegated responsibility for 24-hr cover within the maternity unit. This may include rotation to formulating off-duty to ensure adequate and appropriate cover and when required, liaising with and deploying staff on a shift by shift basis, according to service need.

Monitor the activity within the unit on a shift basis and to risk manage the work of the Lunar birth Centre.

Lead a program of standard setting and audit to implement change that meets patient requirements and improves standards.

Be an autonomous practitioner providing clinical leadership and expertise in all aspects of midwifery practice, which includes providing, direct care to women.

Delegate clinical tasks to staff members on shift as appropriate e.g. care of complex cases, routine checking of equipment.

Facilitate the development of all staff including junior medical staff and support workers through teaching and empowerment.
