We are looking for an enthusiastic advanced clinical practitioner who will help support us through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Due to recent changes within the Emergency Surgery Service this exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented individual with multiple skills and an appetite for delivering a first class nursing service to join the team in one of the UKs most successful and progressive NHS Foundation Trusts. We are looking for an advanced practitioner to join our emergency surgery team on the West Middlesex site. The role entails working within our emergency surgery department as an advanced and autonomous practitioner.

The successful applicant will take a senior clinical role to deliver an innovative service within our emergency surgery team to deliver the service, support the Senior Nursing and Midwifery Team priorities and the wider Trust agenda. You will work collaboratively with the clinical leads while developing partnerships with the other divisions and other specialist nurses.

You will have had demonstrable success in a senior clinical role working as part of a multi-professional team, and bring strong advanced clinical skills. You will be able to establish your credibility with colleagues and be a visible senior nurse to an ambitious and high performing team.

Main duties of the job

This is a post for a fully qualified Emergency Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The Emergency Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioner will form part of the Emergency Surgery Department Clinical Team, providing expert care and management of patients with known or suspected Emergency surgery conditions. The Emergency Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioner will be expected to uphold the four pillars of Advanced Practice, providing expert, evidence based care for patients, clinical leadership to assist and advise junior staff with decision making, and participate and innovate in education and research during their training. In doing so he/she will:

  • Practice as an Emergency Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioner within own sphere of competence and agreed acceptable limits of practice
  • Utilise advanced clinical skills to assess patients, order and interpret investigations, diagnose, treat, and refer patients with support and supervision from a senior doctor
  • Be a pivotal part of the emergency surgery pathway including initial assessment, diagnostic elements including biopsies and patient consultation
  • Continue to develop, practice and expand own specialist skills
  • To contribute to service improvement across the Emergency Surgery Department
  • To contribute to the Workforce Strategy and Training and Development Programme for the Multidisciplinary Team
  • To support and participate in all aspects of clinical governance, evidence based practice and quality assurance

  1. Collaborate closely with the Lead Nurse and Consultant Lead for Emergency Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioners to ensure fulfilment of credentialing requirements, and undertake delegated projects and management responsibilities as required
  1. Lead and assist in the collation of data for the service key performance metrics, and work with others to ensure continuous improvement on results.
  1. Develop links throughout the Trust through attendance at meetings and maintain communication networks across sites.
  2. Contribute to clinical effectiveness thought involvement in audit, risk management and clinical governance.
  1. Manage a safe clinical environment within the Health and Safety at Work act.
  1. Have knowledge of the role within policies and procedures relating to major incidents
  1. Carry out procedures within hospital guidelines and ensure these are adhered to.
