Job summary

Band 7 Senior Clinical Skills Facilitator

The Clinical Learning and Development team provides Trust wide clinical education, ranging from basic skills to advance interventional skills and knowledge.

You will be joining a dynamic multi-professional team with the aim to support and coordinate the development of the clinical skills training of the undergraduate doctors, nurses and members of the multidisciplinary team. This post is a permanent full-time post. The post holder will be coordinating the educational activities and assessments of learning.

The post holder will actively promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across the Division and Trust wide and be an effective role model for best practice.

The suitable candidate will be an experienced registered nurse with good clinical competence and excellent ability to teach and support learning.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain primary responsibility for ensuring the Trust provides a progressive learning environment for all clinical staff level. The post holder will support and coordinate the clinical skills training of the multidisciplinary team. This includes the pre and post - registration: doctors, nurses, nursing associates, midwifery, AHP and undergraduate doctors from Imperial College by co-ordinating educational activities within the department.
  • Responsible for the Skills Laboratory and maintenance of the equipment while providing training, assessment of clinical competencies and support.
  • To be involved in corporate agenda by participating in practice and development within their division and liaising with the clinical managers as appropriate.
  • These duties will be carried out in liaison with the Director of Clinical Studies, Teaching Co-ordinator for Undergraduate Medical Education and the Head of Nursing Practice Development and Education.
  • To support all educational programmes provided by the Clinical Learning and Development team Trust wide
  • The post holder will actively promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across the Division and Trust wide
  • The post holder will provide educational and clinical support in the clinical area for 25% of their working time.
  • To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills thereby acting as a positive role model for staff on all levels.

  • To promote research awareness by, disseminating appropriate evidence-based and research findings relevant to the clinical practice area. To keep the Education Lead, Professional Practice and Standards, informed of any new research proposals, and on the progress of research studies approved by the Trust R&D and Ethics Committee.
  • To work closely with Approved Educational Institution (AEI) staff and the Education Lead, Professional Practice and Standards in contributing to the development and review of speciality-related courses, and in the evaluation of courses.
  • To work collaboratively with AEIs and other Trust colleagues on Education Quality Reviews in relation to the quality of the clinical learning environment.
  • To support education and training of new learners of all levels; working and learning in practice across all fields of practice.
  • To participate in inter-professional teaching and learning including undergraduate medical education.

Corporate Practice Development

  • To work with senior leads i.e. ward managers and matrons to ensure that development processes are implemented within their clinical areas
  • To work with the Ward Manager/Matron to ensure clinical practice within their Division is compliant with national guidance and standards i.e. NICE guidance
  • To be aware of themes and trends arising from clinical incidents and complaints, and ensure these form part of the on-going educational and development programmes for learners on all levels within their Division

Workforce
