Job responsibilities

To work collaboratively with the team, lead large sections of work and create opportunities for the team in the Collaborative Learning and Capacity Building Theme (CLCB) to deliver activities that help build capacity for health improvement and research.

The post-holder will need to use their leadership and managerial expertise to work with individuals, teams and organizations to persuade, influence and troubleshoot, and be capable of dealing professionally with conflict and resistance to change.

To supervise and collaborate with the NIHR ARC CLCB Theme in delivering their remit of promoting capacity building, improving the health of the public and research, keeping in line with national public health initiatives. To also provide a key link with other capacity building programmes within the ARC such as Social Care & Capacity Building and the Knowledge Mobilisation Fellowship work.

To work in collaboration with CLCB Theme Lead, Deputy Theme Lead and the Education Lead to deliver research within the theme. The post holder will take responsibility for leading their own research and collaborate across the team in leading, delivering and writing up research. This will include project managing logistics for research projects, paying attention to detail, liaising with clinical and non-clinical staff to participate in research.

When necessary, to recommend and initiate remedial action to ensure the CLCB Theme projects remain on schedule, in budget and to quality specification.

To gather primary data, evaluate and disseminate information via preparing papers for the NIHR ARC Programme and the CLCB Theme

To lead, and work with the team in the NIHR ARC Programme and the CLCB Theme in preparing grant and research submissions, ethics applications, annual reports and agendas and minutes for meetings with both internal and external agencies and partnering organisations when required.

To contribute to teaching with original material and evidence based practice across the ARC programme and participate in evaluation of teaching and training within the programme to inform iterative development of the training programmes. The post holder will be required to create and deliver teaching within their own area of experience and expertise. To lead on creating and delivering new education opportunities and to consider innovation in teaching and learning within the ARC NWL.

Demonstrate the flexibility and initiative necessary to cope with rapid, unforeseen changes in plans and demands, this being an inherent element of working with a large project in a dynamic environment. The post holder will be required to understand agile working, being able to adjust and flex depending on circumstances that arise, whilst still leading and delivering high quality education and research.

Demonstrate the ability to plan ahead and anticipate the requirements of the NIHR ARC over a wide range of activities. To lead on project planning, creating Gantt charts and milestone planning to ensure deliver on target of workstreams for the team.

Implement and monitor proper usage of resources using appropriate and standard project management methodology.

To negotiate, influence and resolve issues with key internal and external stakeholders, involving senior level negotiation to obtain high level commitment to the Themes projects. The post holder will be expected to take a lead and take responsibility for a section of key external stakeholders within their network, working in conjunction with team members to co-ordinate relationship management across the network.

Be responsible for sharing information in line with the NIHR ARC NWL programme, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College London policies and legal regulations to provide and receive complex information, to communicate information about the programme in response to a constantly changing landscape.

Undertake activities to build capacity in other members of the team to develop expertise in research methods and be able to provide teaching /facilitation and support for use of these methods.

Act as a gatekeeper for internal and external stakeholder and partner queries, ensuring that these are responded to effectively and in a timely manner.

Actively participate in teaching, sharing learning, build a community of practice and the delivery of the theme research events and workshops that are delivered in person and digitally.

To communicate through a variety of formats and media regarding education, training provision, research, and other capacity building activities.

To share knowledge and where appropriate train others, in the multi-disciplinary team, in areas of knowledge and expertise gathered through previous education and current work experience. There is no line management responsibility attached to this position, however, working within a complex team the candidate will need to be a team player and be able to take a lead where appropriate.

To lead on writing up select papers and reporting on the research the post holder has created, led, analysed and delivered. To lead the team on preparing papers for meetings and peer-review publications by liaising with members of the team, and collecting and disseminating information; and adopt best practice.

Be aware of financial policies and procedures and act in accordance with them at all times.

To lead and develop (with support and supervision) ad hoc projects and other development opportunities in line with the post holders own interests & expertise and to be able to project manage these projects and developments.

To conduct research with impact on practice and on policy.

To lead on developing policy and procedures within the team to ensure inclusive and engaging work practices. The post holder will be expected to understanding and refer to national guidance and practices to lead on this policy development.

• undergraduate or master's degree in appropriate area

• PhD degree in appropriate area

Experience

Essential

• Experience of teaching, training or delivering education within a healthcare setting

• Experience of working as a senior clinician within a large and complex organisation.

Skills

• Skills in collaborative working and Quality Improvement implementation

Desirable

• Experience of writing for peer reviewed Journal articles, either as sole author or with peers

Personal Qualities

• Ability to work within a matrix management environment and work well with stakeholders
