Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an authentic leader who shares our PROUD values and who can intuitively, creatively and empathetically guide our Trust's communications, engagement and marketing function. You will head up a team of bright, able and committed communication, engagement and design professionals who support a high performing organisation.

The team provide their expertise to a number of major programmes whilst also responding to the Trust's complex, fast-paced and ever-changing communications, engagement and marketing needs.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Director of Communications you will be able to work with and influence people across the organisation and a diverse set of external partners and stakeholders.

Working closely with Trust leadership and senior management across Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the post holder will provide advice on communications and engagement activity to promote organisational values and services in line with an agreed communications

strategy.

They will also ensure key messages are clearly articulated and provide advice to ensure the good reputation of the Trust is reflected internally and externally as well as ensuring balance in any negative coverage. This will mean providing advice and guidance to senior personnel on complex and high-profile or contentious issues.

The successful candidate will help to enable and hold sustainable and meaningful

dialogue with diverse communities ensuring the Trust's strategy both reflects the

aspirations and needs of all those it serves and who work for it and that

communication is visible and effective.

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent qualification in journalism or public relations
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of communications, crisis communications and public relations
  • Examples of additional professional qualifications or career development in the field

Experience

  • Extensive experience within a communications function
  • Experience of working with the media, particularly in the NHS, with evidence of handling and managing high profile media issues
  • Experience of providing expert communications and engagement advice at senior levels

Skills and knowledge

  • An overview of digital expertise to support on digitally led campaigns, with an appetite to progress and adapt to evolving channels
