Opportunity has risen for a restructure of the staffing at the Trust mortuaries.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and compassionate mortuary support officer to join our team and support the running of the mortuary services at the hospital, to give a first-class service that is focused on caring for the bereaved across our sites and to be able to provide reassurance to families that we will take good care of their loved ones in preparation for their final journey.
If successful you will be responsible for assisting the site Mortuary Manager with the smooth day to day running of the site mortuary, work with patients, their families and carers, clinical staff and external professional agencies, accept deceased persons into the mortuary, correctly documenting their arrival and to release deceased persons into the care of the appointed funeral director, ensuring that all documentation involved in the process is accurately completed. The dignity of the deceased must be maintained at all times.
In the absence of a senior mortuary colleague, take charge of the mortuary, carry out basic day to day activities and ensure the department remains fully operational.

Job responsibilities
- To support the delivery of deceased patient care working closely with the site Mortuary Manager to ensure the delivery of high calibre care, with efficient use of facilities, manpower and other resource
- Support the site Mortuary Manager in their role promoting the vision and values of the Trust
- To establish and maintain good working relationships with staff within the Trust, the Coroner's Office, funeral directors, Police and members of the public
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Trusts Policies, Procedures and Guidelines actively contributing to their development and revisio
- Demonstrate efficient use and utilisation of resource
- Ensure Trust values are embedded within every aspect of the servic
- Ensure that the deceased and their families are treated with compassion
- To maintain the safe and dignified reception, storage and release of all deceased patients and their property and valuables, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete, enabling funeral arrangements to be made without delay
- Prepare deceased for viewing
- Book the deceased into mortuary checking I.D., measure and recording coffin sizes for funeral directors and recording of any property
- To ensure all documentation relating to the release of the deceased is accurately completed.
- Clean and disinfect any spillages of blood and body fluids in a safe manner in accordance with infection control and cross contamination policies.
- Ensure fouled linen is placed in an appropriate linen bags and change linen bags as necessary
