Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a candidate to join our Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, & Infection Prevention and Control team.

This is a new post to strengthen our existing Infection team. The post holder will join an existing team of 6 (5.2 WTE) consultants working at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust sites.

The consultant would be expected to be based primarily at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. It is anticipated that the post holder will work with the existing Consultants in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology to provide a high quality clinical, laboratory and infectious diseases consult service at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust Hospital. The post holder is also expected to take on the role of Infection Prevention and Control doctor for the Chelsea site.

The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to our patients across the Trust.

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners and on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.

Main duties of the job

The clinical infection service provided at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust provides clinical liaison to onsite services including a regional burns unit, a combined medical and surgical ICU and a medical HDU, a large women's and children's department including the regional paediatric surgical service, and acute medical and surgical services including an ambulatory care unit providing outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy. The clinical infection service at Chelsea and Westminster site is actively looking to expand its activities including developing a larger role in the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy clinics and development of a fever/general infectious diseases clinic, potentially providing pre-travel medicine expertise.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) at Chelsea and Westminster hospital is led by the Director of Infection Prevention and Control along with an onsite Infection Control doctor, the post holder is expected to take on the role of IPC doctor for the Chelsea site

It is currently based in a centralised laboratory at Charing Cross Hospital and is fully ISO accredited. The post holder is expected to deliver a proportion of their time based at the NWLP Hub laboratory.
