Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the country's highest performing Trusts as a Hospital Medical Director for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
As a key member of the Trust Executive Management Board, you will play a key leadership role in creating alignment between the Trust and the medical staff on their respective site, extending their influence and understanding of the management and development of the Trust. In addition to supporting the Trust to achieve its strategic and operational objectives, they will support and encourage innovation in clinical practice, effect changes in the way services are delivered and ensure that teamwork is embedded and patient care is further enhanced.

Main duties of the job
As a key member of the Trust Executive Management Board, the Hospital Medical Director will have a leadership role in creating alignment between the Trust and the medical staff on their respective site. They will take an active role in the operational flow of the site as well as extending their influence and understanding of the management and development of the Trust. In addition to supporting the Trust to achieve its strategic and operational objectives, they will support and encourage innovation in clinical practice, effect changes in the way services are delivered and ensure that teamwork is embedded and patient care is further enhanced. They will support the delivery of Trust Values to promote the strategic objectives of the Trust in delivering high quality care, as an employer of choice for the staff and with the best use of resources.

Workforce
- To represent the Office of Medical Director in respect of site specific issues particularly those which pertain to medical workforce such as recruitment, temporary staffing, job planning, demand & capacity planning, appraisals and maintaining high professional standards
- To provide support, direction and challenge to the clinical divisions to ensure that correctly sized, future proofed, safe, sustainable and affordable clinical services are provided across the hospital site
- Work with the site Director of Medical Education and Director of Clinical Studies to ensure oversight of key site issues relating to undergraduate medical education and post-graduate medical training and workforce agendas
- To work as part of the site triumvirate to develop robust business continuity plans for the hospital site. To work in tandem with part of the alternate site triumvirate to ensure there is synergy across the Trust and that the business continuity plans reflect this
- To represent the site in the Executive Management Board.
- The postholder will deliver on call services. This will be either as Director On Call or within their specialty rota, to be decided on appointment
Use of Resources
- To be operationally accountable to the Hospital Site Director and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer in respect of delivery of all relevant site specific activity and performance objectives
- To provide support to the Divisions in the delivery of the Key Quality and Performance standards and, where necessary, to identify and develop site specific clinical outcome measures.
- To deliver the quarterly site specific reports to the Board and the sub-committees as required as part of the site triumvirate
- Any additional responsibilities as agreed with the Hospital Site Director and Chief Medical Officer
- To lead, as part of the site triumvirate, any major programmes not covered above which are site specific
