Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Emergency Medicine doctor who is keen to gain experience in Creative Writing and Medical Journalism and be supported through a qualification in this field. This job is suitable for senior middle grade doctors and trainees who are motivated to broaden their experience and develop sub-speciality interest.
These jobs are for Senior Clinical fellows who will be based at Chelsea and Westminster Emergency Department and are expected to provide clinical cover for the department. During this year you will attend a suitable 'Writing a Memoir Course' at the Faber Academy - an established resource for training writers with a highly successful track record, organised by the Faber publishing house. You will organise a Writers Group within the Trust, led by an EM consultant with experience in medical narrative. The post would also involve producing the two-monthly departmental newsletter. By the end of your year you should submit a poster and an article to the EMJ describing your journey and your views on the reflective value of creative writing as a practicing clinician. In addition your membership of the Medical Journalists' Association would be sponsored during the year.

Main duties of the job
This post will incorporate a job split of up to 70:30 Emergency Medicine :Creative Writing. The split will be agreed with the educational supervisor depending on projects or postgraduate courses that the postholder wishes to undertake, and regularly reviewed against progress demonstrated towards their PDP.
We have a strong commitment to training and exam preparation in the department. In addition to the Regional Higher Speciality Trainees, you will be working with our clinical fellows who have special interest in Education, Research, Ultrasound and International Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to attend and contribute to weekly SpR teaching. The Trust and the ED adopt a trainee centred approach to learning with a designated supervisor and opportunities for support by trained mentors.
