Job summary
We have an exciting vacancy at the level of Senior Clinical Fellow for a candidate who wishes to obtain training, broaden their experience, and develop a specialist interest in both Global Health (GH) and Emergency Medicine. You will have a dedicated GH supervisor with 10 years' experience in GH who has close links with the RCEM Global EM (GEM) committee, undertakes GH research and has an academic appointment with the Global Health Institute at Imperial College, London. The fellowship is expected to fulfil the RCEM Global Emergency Medicine recommendations which include the following components
- Professional Development: Funding support to pursue advanced studies related to global health. (funding amount may vary depending on the number of appointments)
- Supervised field work: You will have the opportunity to travel for field work both to participate in GH related projects and work on virtual training with global partners and learn more about RCEM GEM partnerships and projects. Previous projects have included a successful RCEM LMIC grant for developing virtual simulation, raising awareness about vulnerable and marginalised populations in the ED and working on capacity building training in India and virtual clinical grand rounds in Uganda
This post will be on 2002 Junior doctor contract on MN37 payscale
Main duties of the job
This post is suitable for trainees who are highly motivated, organised and keen to broaden their experience and exposure to global emergency medicine. The post involves up to 30% non-clinical time to complete the GH component of the job. The experience and project work would form a strong foundation for those wishing to pursue further opportunities in humanitarian work, disaster medicine, or medicine in austere environments.
The split of up to 70:30 Emergency Medicine : Global Health will be agreed with the educational supervisor depending on projects or postgraduate courses that the post holder wishes to undertake, and regularly reviewed against progress demonstrated towards their PDP.
The successful candidate with be working on a full rota in the Emergency Department with the regional higher speciality trainees and clinical fellows with special interest in research, ultrasound, international emergency medicine and simulation.
