Job summary
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a modern purpose-built and aesthetically pleasing environment with a reputation for high quality integrated care and a wide and expanding range of specialist paediatric services. We are pleased to invite applications for a locum, full time (10PA) Resident Paediatric Medicine Consultant posts.
The post includes a resident out of hours component. The successful applicants will join a team of acute paediatricians providing 24 hour resident paediatric consultant presence. This will continue to ensure that patients across the Paediatric Emergency Department, the High Dependency Unit, and the inpatient wards will have their care delivered, or directly overseen, by experienced doctors at all times. The resident consultant is supported by a full team of junior and middle grade doctors around the clock and non-resident consultants out of hours.
We are looking for individuals with an interest in acute paediatrics, including emergency medicine, as the out of hours requires a physical presence within the dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department. The day time work will be across the paediatric wards, High Dependency Unit, and outpatients.
Applicants would be expected, as part of the team, to be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training as well.
Main duties of the job
This post is a full time, 10PA, post based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The successful candidate will work a shift based rota and will be resident within the paediatric emergency department or on the paediatric wards at night 1 in 6 (during which time they will also provide senior assessment of acutely sick in-patients as needed).
Whilst on the ED shop floor the resident consultant is responsible all children in the PED and for the shift management, supervising middle grades and junior STs in their decisions, and ensuring the department is performing to meet the required indicators.
A non-resident consultant grade remains responsible for inpatients overnight and is available to provide support.
