Job summary
Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust wish to appoint 1 WTE full time (10 PAs) Substantive Consultant Plastic Surgeon with an interest in Burn Surgery
The Burns Service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has been proposed by the National Burn Care Group to be an Adult Burn Centre and Paediatric Burn Unit and is the only hospital providing care for complex adult burns, including those with polytrauma, in London. Paediatric patients of all ages with less complex burns are also treated as are other non-burn skin loss disorders such as toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Main duties of the job
Provide High Quality Care to Patients
- The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- Adhere to the Trust Customer Service Commitment and adopt a professional approach to customer care at all times.
- Develop clinical practice through self-reflection and learning from experience, application of research into practice and active contribution within the multi-disciplinary team.
- Research, Teaching and Training
- Provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Service Lead, and contribute to training and teaching of medical trainees, medical students, other doctors in training and other staff groups.
- Be responsible for teaching and training non-Consultant postgraduate colleagues.
- Act as educational supervisor and appraiser to ensure external accreditation of training posts.
- Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues, and lead on projects to enhance the Trust's translational research/audit portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
- Take on the role of research lead within the Burns Service.

The successful candidate will undertake clinics, emergency and elective surgery, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and on other sites (such as the local trauma centres).
It is anticipated that the post holder will engage in specific management tasks and contribute to monthly departmental meetings and hospital committees in agreement with the Service Director and the Directorate Policy Board.
The post holder will be required to build on existing, close relations with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team. He/she will be expected to contribute to the 1:5 burn surgery on call rota including weekends. The Burns Consultants also contribute cover to the general plastic surgery on-call. He/She will also be required to participate in audit, research, management and service development

- Full GMC registration and entry on the specialist register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights (EBOPRAS).
- Burn Surgery Fellowship and Postgraduate Research (MD, MS or PhD) in burn related research
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS)
- UK registered Medical Degree
- Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination or equivalent
- Past record of academic achievement
- Eligibility for Specialist Registration and continue to hold a licence to practise.
- Experience in teaching medical trainees and other professionals
- Publications in peer reviewed journals in relevant areas.
