Locum Consultant
The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint Consultant in Upper GI Surgery with interest in Emergency Surgery. The appointment will be 10 PA's as outlined in the job plan enclosed.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to contribute to the Surgical services specialising in benign Upper GI (including biliary surgery and anti-reflux surgery) and the emergency surgery consultant of the week rota at West Middlesex; Candidates who wish in addition to perform bariatric surgery would be considered if their training is judged complete and this is declared at interview.
In addition the post holder will have responsibility for seeing and treating patients with intermediate general surgery conditions such as hernias.
The post holder will be included in the general surgery on-call roster at the West Middlesex Hospital site of the CW (subject to change determined by the future needs of the Department). In addition the candidate will be the surgeon of the week at the WM end of the Trust on a 1:9 prospective basis during which time the other clinical activities are cancelled.

- To undertake to operate on and turn over patients at a speed comparable with peers to allow optimum usage of the operating theatres
- To participate in outpatient clinics specifically in upper GI surgery as well as seeing a reasonable number of intermediate condition patients to enable this group of patients to be treated in a timely fashion and the treatment centre list to run to full capacity.
- To participate and when appropriate lead the MDT meeting.
- Deliver consultant review of all non-elective admissions review within 12 hours of admission
- Promote early and safe discharge, including the use of community providers to reduce length of stay
- Develop new innovative communication pathways with GPs and patients.
- Evolve and write in line with Trust governance policies patient pathways for patients seen within the bariatric unit.
- Interact with commissioners when appropriate to streamline pathways and facilitate patients access for treatment.

- Full GMC Registration
- Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC))
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register OR eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
- FRCS or appropriate specialist qualification
- Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
