This post will be based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where the Clinical Research Fellow will undertake their clinical work and research.

The post is suitable for individuals wishing to gain some experience in research in a one-year post or for those wishing to pursue a higher research degree. Role would beginfor a September 2022 start

This full time post is for a fixed-term of 12 months renewable depending on academic and clinical progress.

The postholder will hold an honorary contract with ImperialCollege London.

there is a choice of several potential research projects, and we encourage interested candidates to explore potential projects prior to interview.

Main duties of the job

Research

The appointed Clinical Research Fellow will join the clinical and research at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (CWH) campus of Imperial College London. The Neonatal Medicine Research Group is a multi-professional group of some 20 staff and students and includes Professor Neena Modi, Dr Sabita Uthaya (Clinical Senior Lecturer), Dr Chris Gale (MRCClinician Scientist and Reader), Dr Cheryl Battersby (NIHR Clinician Scientist and Senior Lecturer), 11 NHS consultants, research nurses, post-doctoral research associates, statisticians and data analysts.

The research programme focuses on a life course approach and encompasses body composition, multi-centre clinical trials and population based epidemiology.

ClinicalThe clinical portion of the post will be undertaken at CWH neonatal unit with some degree of flexibility to align with research commitments.

CWH is one of two tertiary neonatal intensive care units in the North West London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWLODN) and is the designated unit for neonatal surgery.It is a busy unit with over 6,000 births a year, and has 37 cots comprising 12 ITU, 9 HDU and 16 SCBU commissioned cots.

This is set to increase to 42 cots, with an additional 2 ITU and 3HDU cots, in line with HDU demands, with the complete redesign and expansion of the unit; due for completion in May 2021. The unit currently looks after approximately 800 babies a year.

Key ResponsibilitiesAcademicThe post-holder will be required to undertake a leading role in a research project as supported by a nominated academic supervisor.

The postholder will be encouraged and supported to undertake a higher research degree according to their area of research interest in alignmentwith the strengths of the neonatal research group, and agreed with academic supervisors.

Research training will be available.The post-holder will be expected to:- Publish high quality research in peer reviewed journals-Attend and present work at national and international conferences- Collaborate with other research organisations, both academic and commercial-Attend and contribute to educational, journal club, research programme within the department- Undertake any training and/or development required- Promote team working and good professional relationshipsClinical and professional responsibilities-To maintain clinical expertise in neonatal/ paediatric research including professionalregistration and up to date certification in Good Clinical Practice- To observe the confidentiality of patient data at all times in accordance with the GeneralData Protection Regulation and Information Governance requirements.- To provide ongoing information, education and support to infants, parents, carers andfamilies regarding clinical studies-To work as part of the broader research and multidisciplinary team- To adhere to all Trust clinical guidelines for the management of babies as appropriate- To be responsible for efficient management of own time and workload.-Participation in the neonatal rota may also available; additional clinical work may also be on an internal locum basis as required.

  • Degree in medicine
  • Medical qualification with registration at the General Medical Council
