Job summary

To provide a comprehensive sexual health service, to the local population. Takingresponsibility for the day to day management of clinics whilst ensuring a qualityservice is delivered providing high standards of patient care

Main duties of the job

As an autonomous practitioner undertake independent consultations withpatients, including assessing, monitoring and evaluating individual patient'scontraceptive and sexual health needs including referral to other HealthProfessionals as required.

Issue methods of contraception according to Patient Group Directions & clinical protocols.

Provide STI screening and treatment according to Patient Group Directions &clinical protocols. Encouraging partners attendance and treatment whennecessary.

Provide advice and cytology screening as appropriate, according to localpolicies.

To take responsibility of the smooth running of the day to day management ofthe AXESS service.

Undertaking the Trust appraisal/ Personal Development Review process

Job responsibilities

To ensure the clinic operates with minimum delay for patients. Assessing,monitoring and evaluating patients individual contraceptive and sexual healthneeds including:

Issuing of appropriate contraceptive methods and advice according to PGDs, local policies and guidelines

Issuing of appropriate treatment and advice for all sexually transmitted infections according to PGDs, local policies and guidelines.

Pregnancy testing, giving results, counselling, advice and referralwhere appropriate.

To ensure all local policies regarding issue of contraceptive supplies andtreatments for STIs are adhered to

To assist other clinicians staff as and when required

To deal with telephone enquiries related to contraceptive and sexual health( including HIV) issues.

To provide up-to-date and relevant information to other professional/non-professional staff, which is within the scope of their professional practice, including supporting junior staff within the service

To undertake cytology screening, sexually transmitted infection screening,HIV testing & 1st Issue of Hormonal Contraception, according to localprotocols and Patient Group Directions, following appropriate training

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife
  • Contraception & Reproductive Health Certificate (ENB 901/R71 or equivalent postregistration Diploma/degree level module) and/or willingness to undertake and maintain DFSRH qualificatio
  • FSRH LoC in SDI I-R
  • Ability to be a Clinical Mentor (ENB 998/997 or equivalent post-registration degree level module) following appropriate training
  • Degree (health related) or equivalent

Desirable

  • Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation Course (STIF) or equivalent experience
  • HIV and AIDS related conditions (ENB 934 or equivalent)
  • Care and provision for HIV/AIDS (ENB 280 or equivalent)
  • NVQ trainer (D32/33)
  • Counselling skills/certificate

Experience

  • Post-registration clinical experience within Sexual Health field (or equivalent experience)
  • Recent clinical experience within Sexual Health/Contraception field ( or equivalent)
