Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Endocrine Surgery Senior Clinical Fellow. The successful candidate will work in the Breast & Endocrine Surgery Unit with the Endocrine Surgery team. The Endocrine surgery team offer the full range of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery, including benign and malignant pathologies, open, minimally invasive and Robotic Surgeries. The Unt also provides a city-wide endocrine surgery Consultant on call service. Additionally the unit sees subspecialist tertiary referrals such a post-renal transplant hyperparathyroidism, phaeochromocytoma, Adrenocortical Carcinoma and paediatric thyroid surgery.
The endocrine surgery team work closely with the breast surgery team and provide cross-cover on occasions, for ward care and theatre assistance. The units have strong links to the psychology, medical endocrinology, nuclear medicine and clinical chemistry departments, and the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.
Main duties of the job
LUHFT are a busy tertiary referral centre for Breast & Endocrine surgery. Patients are referred from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man for specialist input. There is collaborative MDT working with Endocrine Surgery MDT, Adrenal MDT and regional Thyroid Cancer MDT. There is close collaboration with the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology. The unit undertakes around 300 Thyroid/Parathyroid operations and 80 Adrenalectomies each year.
The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of the Endocrine Surgery service at both Royal Liverpool & Aintree University Hospital sites: along with Broadgreen Hospital the 3 sites are within Liverpool city area with hospital transport available in hours if needed. They will contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from Endocrine Surgical conditions. The work will be supported and supervised by consultant surgeons and physicians attached to the unit. The applicant will receive training in surgery on the Thyroid, Parathyroids and Adrenal glands. They will carry out pre- and post-operative care as necessary. The incumbent will also be responsible, with other junior staff, for the day-today care of the unit's patients. Prospective audits are practised by the directorate. All trainees and clinical fellows will be responsible for the collation and presentation of departmental audit data at regular audit meetings held in house and at regional meetings.
