Job summary
We are recruiting one full-time driver on a 37.5 hour contract, Monday to Friday between the hours of 0800-1600 as a external courier
We are also recruiting one part time driver on a 15 hour contract, Saturday and Sunday 0600-1400 as a Linen transfer driver. To join our dedicated transport team.
As an NHS driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare services by transporting linen between our Trust sites driving a 3.5 tonne tail lift van.
Requirements:
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- 3.5 tonne tail lift vehicle experience.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience in dealing professionally with staff and members of the public.
- Willingness to work additional hours to cover holidays and sickness.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other transport colleagues on ad-hoc assignments.

Main duties of the job
NHS drivers have a variety of responsibilities that are essential for the smooth operation of healthcare services. Their main duties typically include:

Delivering Medical Supplies:Ensuring timely and secure delivery of medical supplies, equipment, and medications to various NHS sites, including hospitals, clinics, and patient homes.

Vehicle Maintenance: Performing daily checks, including checking oil, fuel, tyre pressure, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and well-stocked.

Adhering to Safety Protocols: Following strict health and safety guidelines, including infection control procedures.

Record Keeping:Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, pick-ups, mileage, and any incidents or issues encountered during their duties.

Assisting Patients:Providing assistance to patients with mobility issues, helping them get in and out of the vehicle safely, and ensuring they are comfortable during transport.

Communication:Communicating effectively with healthcare staff, patients, and sometimes patients' families to ensure clear information exchange and coordination.

To keep accurate personal records i.e. timesheets
To manage workload to maximise efficiency of deliveries and collections
The post will require some problem solving to address on site customerenquiries
To achieve and maintain the standard of service as agreed, keepingwithin timed schedules, and working unsupervised
Planning of own day to day work tasks
To supply a delivery and collection service as laid down by currentschedules
Deliveries and collections will include such items as casenotes andinternal post as per scheduled or non -scheduled journeys to provide anefficient service
To keep documented reports associated with each journey- i.e. vehiclelog sheets, mileage, to comply with Transport Regulations.
To check the vehicle each day, prior to use, of fuel, oil, water, tyres,lights and keep documented records, i.e. defect reports etc. as requiredplus any other associated forms, in order to maintain the safety of thedriver, vehicle and other road users. Taking the vehicle to hirer forrepairs, servicing and MOT's
To keep the vehicle, clean inside and out, to prevent dirt and crosscontamination
To be responsible for the safe loading and unloading of goods,observing associated Health and Safety guidelines, to prevent injury toself and other persons
The moving of case notes between sites as necessary, e.g. distributionand/or emergency movement ensuring that customer daily requirementsare met.
To maintain patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliancewith Trust Policies, for the prevention and control of infection, includinghand hygiene. To undertake appropriate mandatory training andupdates in infection prevention and control.
There will be a need to communicate with other staff at various levelswithin the Trust.
To establish good working relationships with all customers to maintainthe agreed level of service.
