Job summary

An exciting opportunityfor a Band 6 Alcohol Specialist Nurse RNhas become available to cover maternity leave.

The alcohol specialist nurse team based in the New Royal Liverpool Hospital is an integral part of the department of gastroenterology. Here at the LUFT we provide nurse-led out-patient services to the local population, and provide support and liaison to our community partners, and referral to specialist services.

This is a post that would suit a Registered Nurse with at least 12 months experience of working in an acute hospital. Working with this complex patient group will require good clinical skills and a positive and caring attitude. Evidence of working autonomously is essential.

The post will be under the direct clinical supervision of the Clinical Lead Nurse and managed by the Alcohol Team Lead. The role will involve treating patients with alcohol dependence, liver disease, and cognitive impairment in nurse-led clinics. There will also be the opportunity to undertake specialist clinical procedures such as fibro scanning. The Consultant Hepatologist, Clinical Lead Nurse and Nurse Specialists will support your training, education and development.

Main duties of the job

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to patients experiencing ill health and co morbidities through alcohol use.

Provide advice and expert clinical practice to patients, families and allied professionals.

Perform comprehensive assessments of patient needs throughout the acute hospital Trust and outpatient Nurse led clinics.

Liaise with allied professionals to provide a collaborative approach to patient care.

Refer to recovery support services for optimal support and outcome.

Actively engage with Multi Disciplinary Team meetings (MDT).

Perform liver fibro scans once fully trained with ongoing support from senior nurses.

Maintain accurate contemporaneous documentation and record keeping including audit.
