Job summary

These posts would suit doctors looking to gain experience in Critical Care Medicine or to expand on experience already achieved.

You would be working with Foundation Year 2, Core trainees and Specialty trainee doctors from a wide range of specialties to provide 24-hour cover for critical care.

Our aim is to support you to progress in either a career in intensive care medicine or to gain experience in dealing with critically ill patients in whatever specialty you choose to follow. You will be allocated an educational supervisor who will act as advisor and mentor. You will gain experience in managing critically unwell patients and skills relating to critical care medicine including line insertions; bronchoscopy; tracheostomy; drain insertion; transfer of level 2 and 3 patients to CT, MRI, interventional radiology and theatre. There is also the opportunity to learn ultrasound and ECHO skills.

Main duties of the job

There is also the opportunity to learn ultrasound and ECHO skills.

You will be encouraged to develop your non-clinical skills and your portfolio by participating in audit, quality improvement projects, teaching, education and research. The unit is currently participating in several research studies coordinated by our Research lead Professor Welters and her team of research nurses and doctors.
