Job summary

Nurse Coordinator - AMU - Band 6 Permanent and secondment posts are availableAs a band 6 coordinator you will be in charge of 3 areas of the acute and emergency setting when in charge on shifts, and to help relive the pressure on the Emergency Department by delivering Direct Conveyancing to our assessment areas

you are here to ensure the safe and and effective admission/ transfer and discharge of patients, and to help maintain effective flow throughout the day

  • Co-ordination of the ward on a day to day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams or individuals and self.

Main duties of the job

Liaise with the Senior Medical Team to ensure timely review of any sick patients - within 1 hour in accordance with departmental standards.

Work closely with junior nursing staff to support them, facilitate discharges.

Liaise with the Bed Management team via Bleep system or to ascertain the bed availability on the wards.

Have clear overview of all patients across AEC, FAB/MAB and MAU and monitor compliance with departmental standards.

Maintain communication with all members of the team throughout the shift. Provide leadership and support as required

Complete or delegate various quality checks within the department on a daily basis: Including Resus trolley and CD Cupboard.

Attend bed meetings, bring capacity, potential and active discharges, transfers by speciality/gender and staffing issues

Acute Medical Unit (AMU) 40 short stay beds of which four are dedicated to Level 1b patients requiring a higher level of care. This unit delivers treatment to medical patients. It operates with a maximum length of stay of 14 hours and consultant-led ward rounds take place twice daily

Fab/Mab Is a 24 hour assessment area with 14 trolley spaces accepting medical patients from AED for assessment and treatment the length of stay on this unit is up to 4 hours the patients are then transferred to either AMU or designated wards

Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AEC)- a purpose-built unit incorporating consulting rooms, treatment rooms and a treatment bay.
