Job summary
A vacancy has arisen for a 12 month fixed-term locum consultant in Critical Care Medicine to join our diverse and dynamic team of consultants within the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Aintree University Hospital site).
The clinical commitment is to a busy and progressive adult general intensive care unit which is commissioned for 12 Level 3 and 14 Level 2 beds.
There were 1200 admissions in 2022 of which 25% were elective surgical patients and approximately 500 were level 3 patients. Approximately 90 patients per year require renal support.
The Unit is recognised for training by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine for all levels of training.
Applicants must have full GMC registration and hold Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care medicine (FFICM) or equivalent. Suitable candidates must be on the Specialist Register and hold a CCT/CESR in Intensive Care Medicine with a desire to work in a large and expanding teaching hospital department.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time stand-alone post in Critical Care and the appointee will participate in the provision of 24 hour dedicated clinical cover for the critical care unit. The successful candidate will participate in the Critical Care day time cover at 1 in 5 frequency, and on call rota at 1 in 16 basis including weekdays and weekends (category A - 3% supplement) on a resident on-call basis. The on-call operates on the basis of providing prospective cover for absence.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in clinical audit, clinical governance activities, teaching and consultant appraisal.
