Job summary

This innovative new role will work with the NIHR CRN NWC and Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership to support the development and delivery of research across the Integrated Care System footprint. The post holder will ensure alignment of research activity across Cheshire and Merseyside to meet population needs and will draw on expertise in research, innovation and evaluation.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing and managing a portfolio of projects relevant to the shared priorities of the ICS and CRN with a focus on the key areas of high population need such as mental health, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disorders and cancer. The role aims to connect research and evaluation activity across the ICS footprint and to focus regional expertise on key areas of disease burden and population need. The role will work across NHS and out of hospital settings to support delivery of a range of research projects.

This highly collaborative role will require considerable relationship building and partnership working in complex areas of practice. This will include developing and maintaining relationships with providers across Cheshire and Merseyside, the voluntary sector, local authorities and other health and social care stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Leadership

  • Lead the shared ICS and CRN plans to enhance research engagement and integration and ensure delivery of key programme objectives.
  • Provide managerial support as required.
  • Provide advice, reports and support to the CRN, ICS and other groups as required
  • Support the CRN portfolios to integrate their approach to research with each ICS footprint
  • Deputise for ICS / CRN NWC leadership at relevant meetings as appropriate.

Communication & Relationship Skills

  • This is a high-level leadership role and as such must demonstrate exceptional communication and negotiation skills, be effective people managers and have highly developed interpersonal skills to enable influencing and change management at a senior level.
  • Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information
  • Communicate with internal staff and external agencies to ensure compliance with performance targets, strategic objectives. Involves negotiation and diplomacy
  • Undertake presentations to staff groups and the public / convey highly contentious information
  • Assume overall responsibility for specialty-specific communication including preparation and delivery of presentations, reports and newsletters or meetings detailing the work of the CRN- ICS programme
  • Represent CRN NWC and the ICS(s) at relevant local and national meetings
