Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Locum Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT). This is a 6 month fixed term post. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a dynamic team of consultant chemical pathologists and managing the bone metabolic clinics for the specialty.
Clinical duties will be based mainly at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site. The consultant will be expected to do 2 bone metabolic clnincs per week. The post is for 2.5 Programmed Activities (PAs): direct clinical care activity.
The department of Metabolic Medicine is based at Edward building (4th floor) at new Royal Liverpool Hospital site.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed clinician to join our consultant team. The new consultant will share the provision of outpatient clinics, including virtual and face to face clinics, in metabolic bone diseases. The post holder will be encouraged to attend the once every fortnightly metabolic bone multidisciplinary meeting. The candidate will be expected to manage 2 bone metabolic per week.
The post holder will be expected to follow national governance standards as set out in the Healthcare Commission document Standards for Better Health. In addition, the post holder will actively participate in the Trust's clinical governance strategy. Consultants are expected to provide a lead for, and undertake, quality improvement and clinical audit. The post-holder will be required to comply with the principles of research governance and Caldecott requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in CPD activities and in appraisal and revalidation requirements. The Trust is fully committed to providing the support and time necessary for the appointee to undertake CPD as outlined by the Royal College of Pathologists or The Royal College of Physicians. All Consultants have an annual job plan review conducted by the Care Group Clinical Director.

The locum consultant will share in the provision of outpatient clinics, including remote access clinics, in lipid disorders and metabolic bone disease. There will be three outpatient clinics per week. The successful applicant will join the other consultants to provide advice on the management of biochemical abnormalities in inpatients within RLBUHT and AUH and also provide advice and guidance to General Practitioners on a one in four rota.
Main Duties
1. To provide a clinical advisory service for Clinical Biochemistry in the Blood Sciences Department of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LcL).
2. To share responsibility at consultant level in the metabolic bone disease and lipid outpatient clinics.
3. Providing consultant level clinical and training supervision of medical and other staff associated with the unit.
4. Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service, the post-holder will be expected to observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
5. All medical and dental staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with its Risk Management and Health and Safety Policies and with the guidelines of the General Medical Council, Good Medicine Practice.
