An opportunity has arisen for motivated Radiographers with a specialist interest in Interventional Radiologyto work within the Interventional and Hybrid Theatre suites and the Radiology department, at Liverpool University Hospital.
This role will bebased on the Aintree site.
The role encompasses a full time Radiographer role for Interventional & General Radiology and participation in the 24/7 on call rota for acute Interventional work.
For staff who have limited or no previous experience in Interventional, Hybrid Vascular or Cath Lab Imaging, we would be willing to offer a comprehensive training opportunity, this would be available to both band 5 and band 6 candidates under Annex 21 AFC Terms & Conditions.
The post is ideal for a suitably experienced professional to extend their skills and experience whilst working in a truly team-based environment. We are a large department consisting of Interventional Radiographers, Nurses, Support staff and radiologists. We also are part of the registrar teaching programme and have radiographers who have been trained to scrub as part of IR procedures.

The role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality imaging using a patient centred approach.
Main duties of the job
The Interventional dept has 2 IR theatres containing Siemens Artis Q systems, 1 Ultrasound and a 5 bedded recovery area.
The department covers a wide variety of procedures as the dept supports a range of specialisms based on the Aintree site such as Trauma, MFU/ENT, Regional Vascular, Regional Stroke plus a wide variety of other specialities. There are various roles that are shared out within the team including QA, PPE audits and the general day to day running of the department.
All Radiographic staff are responsible for reporting equipment faults and dealing with suppliers/clinical teams regarding equipment repair or emergency issues that need to be addressed.
Outside of radiology we also provide support for the Cardiac Cath Lab, which is a single plane lab that undertakes Permanent Pacemaker implantations and Diagnostic coronary angiograms.
In October 2022 the regional vascular services relocated to Aintree; this will involve an interim theatre solution. In Summer 2023 the purpose built hybrid theatres complex will open containing 3 theatres of which 2 are Vascular hybrids containing Siemens Artis Phenos.
As part of work in the Cath Lab and Hybrid theatres there will be an aspect of working as the sole Radiographic practitioner and the responsibilities for safe working practises, high quality imaging and a key understanding of anatomical imaging are the key to this role.

CLINICAL
1. Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the Area Lead in each section.
2. Participation in the On-Call rota for Interventional Radiology.
3. Participate in the radiographic rotation through the highly specialised areas such as Interventional Theatres, Cardiac Catheter Lab and Vascular Hybrid theatres. The post holder will also be expected to work all areas of the General Xray department.
4. Participation in the vetting of appropriate request forms and discussion with the medical team regarding appropriateness and urgency of examinations in association with the Area Lead in charge of the area.
5. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
6. To practice within the rules of the Health Professions Council.
7. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care.
8. To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination.
9. Supervision and assistance in training of entry grade student radiographers, assistant practitioners and more band 5 radiographers.
10. Assist in the training of student radiographers and qualified radiographers in setting high standards of radiography in patient care and enabling each radiographer to become conversant with all the radiography duties in General radiology and Interventional Theatres.
11. Close liaison with the Area leads to organise and supervise workflow in the area.
12. Responsible for the injection of contrast media for enhanced examinations, and awareness of type of contrast media required for different examinations.
13. Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy in order to retrieve imaging to assist Interventional Radiologists with performing procedures.
14. Reports and records faults on equipment as and when they occur.
RADIATION PROTECTION
1. Ensure radiation doses to every patient are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) consistent with a diagnostic result.
2. To work to radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations.
3. To comply with IR(ME)R 2017 & IRR 2017.
4. Perform regular QA on equipment in all areas of work.
Clinical Governance / Quality
To comply with the Health and Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at mandatory training sessions as specified. All employees have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to themselves or to others and to co-operate with the Trust in meeting its statutory requirements
To comply with departmental and organisational policies and procedures including reporting of all accidents and incidents.
Monitor the condition of equipment within the Radiology area advising of any defects in equipment or systems thus providing an early warning for potential hazards.
To ensure that potential hazards are identified and reported to the correct authority as necessary.
To participate in clinical audit as appropriate. To assist in the Quality Assurance requirements for the Directorate.
