Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Dental Laboratory Technician team.

As a member of the Dental Laboratory Technician team, the post holder will work closely with clinicians and students to support the patient pathway, working to deadlines to produce high quality support to the clinical team.

This will involve planning and co-ordinating work allocation on a day-to-day basis, including chair side adjustments to appliances and assisting clinical undergraduates with technical prosthetic problems and working study models.

The role will focus on innovative and creative working, with the post holder at the forefront of digital techniques utilised within the Dental Laboratory environment. In such a role, the post holder will work closely with Digital Clinical Leads and the Management team to develop and enhance digital offerings within the Production Laboratory setting.

Driving and implementing change, the post would be well suited to an extremely motivated and ambitious individual with a passion for digital innovation and developing patient care.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve the planning, design and construction of complete / partial dentures and occlusal splints (both hard and soft, for TMJ analysis)

The post holder will be familiar with disinfection protocols of impressions to ensure that saliva/oral debris has been removed, and will work in line with Medical Device Regulations.

The post holder will support and train colleagues in new techniques and methods in creating dental appliances.

  • Qualified Dental Technician with BTEC or HNC or Degree in Dental Technology or equivalent
  • GDC Registered Dental Technician

Desirable

  • Qualified to advanced/higher level (HND, Advanced City and Guilds or Masters level or equivalent) in two or more relevant disciplines and significant experience in relevant dental discipline

Experience

Essential

  • Highly developed level of specialist knowledge and experience of Implants, attachments, milling and full mouth rehabilitations

Desirable

  • Experience teaching Medical Devices Directive.

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication, influencing/leadership skills
  • Highly motivated with ability to work independently
  • Ability to work unsupervised, liaising on treatment plans to Consultants, SpRs and other senior Clinical Staff
  • Ability to liaise directly on treatment plans to Consultants, SpRs and other senior Clinical Staff.

Desirable

  • Ability to provide training and instruction to other staff in Laboratory
  • IT skills
