Job summary

This post is advertised following the departure of a colleague to maintain the service delivery and teaching commitments of the department. The post holder will join the existing team of Consultants (1x full time; 1x part time), 1 specialty trainee, 1 academic clinical lecturer, 1 specialty dentist, 1 specialty dental core trainee and clinical lecturers.

This department is responsible for delivering secondary and tertiary Oral Medicine services. Our clinical space consists of 6 surgeries.

The appointee will be expected to undertake Consultant led clinics. The unit provides MDT clinics for dysplasia, dermatology, facial pain and the management of dry mouth. There is a close working relationship with other dental specialties within the Dental Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to conduct new patient and treatment activity to help maintain the Departmental patient target activities and provide consultant cover as and when necessary.

The appointee will contribute to the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

There will be opportunities within the unit to take part in and develop clinical research and quality improvement projects.

Essential

  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council
  • On GDC specialist list in Oral Medicine or within six months of being admitted to the list for trainees currently in a training programme within the UK

Desirable

  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council (GMC) if dually qualified
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination (ISFE) in Oral Medicine, or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Oral Medicine, or within six months of eligibility.
  • Successful completion of an SAC-approved training programme in Oral Medicine, or within 6 months of completion.

Desirable

  • Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g. in Oral Medicine or Medical Leadership

Clinical

  • Experience in the multi-disciplinary management of Oral Medicine patients including patients on systemic therapies for oromucosal conditions

Research

Essential

  • Ability to appraise scientific literature critically and to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
