Working with the Pharmacy Senior Management Team you will lead, develop, manage, and promote the Education and Training Strategy for our Technical workforce. You will line manage our two Education Training Technicians who support over 40 Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workers in training across our sites.
This role will develop training programmes to standardise practice and ensure that quality is at the centre of everything we do for our patients and to support the wider multidisciplinary team.
This post is full time (37.5 hours) but options for flexible working apply.

Main duties of the job
Your core role will involve developing, managing and promoting all aspects of the education and training for technical and support staff at LUHFT. Also, to liaise with and contribute to the education provider teams in the wider Northwest region.
You will play a pivotal role, working with others in our education and training team to deliver our education strategy and in ensuring optimum performance of the pharmacy.
You must possess excellent organisational skills to undertake this role: You must be able to work accurately, have a good eye for detail, be able to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines and be committed to the delivery of high standards in a patient focused service.
This role will develop the strategic direction for pharmacy education and training and oversee the delivery of the plan. This includes the management of pre-registration technicians and their technical training and the training support of pharmacy assistants and clerical staff.
The department operates a 7-day service to the Trust, we are open every day of the year and participation in rotas to include weekends, bank holidays and late nights is required.

The post-holder will lead, develop, manage, and promote all aspects of the education and training for technical staff at LUHFT. They will shape the strategic direction in consultation with the Education and Training Pharmacist and Technical Services Leads.
Post holder will lead, support and develop the following staff
- Senior Pharmacy Technicians Education and Training
- Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians
- Pharmacy Technicians
- Senior Pharmacy Assistants
- Pharmacy Assistants
The post holder will deputise for the Technical Services leads in their absence, as necessary by:
- Supervising the day-to-day operational running of the services
- Attending meetings on their behalf
Key responsibilities
- The Lead Pharmacy Technician Education and Training will lead on all matters relating to the education and training of technical staff within pharmacy.
- Work with the Lead Pharmacist for Education and Training to support the development of a pharmacy-wide strategy for education and training in the department.
- Be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of training programmes.
- Be responsible for identification of training needs and ensure promotion and delivery of a comprehensive education programme.
- Liaise with the Senior Management Team and develop strong links with the rest of the department in respect of technical staff education and training activities including attendance at Education and Training meetings.
- Lead on the recruitment and selection of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians.
- Supervise the mentoring and training of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants ensuring quality assurance is maintained in accordance with Health Education England standards for training and funding allocation.
- Maintain established professional relationships with the education providers delivering the courses and escalating concerns/feeding back as necessary.
- Be responsible for organising a dispensary induction for all new starters within the dispensary and ensure they are competency assessed with the Deputy Technical Services Manager/Dispensary Manager.
- Lead on the timely review and update of training packs, liaising with relevant leads.
- Be responsible for the line management of the Senior Pharmacy Technicians
- Education and Training service improvement objectives and personal development plans.
- Work closely with the Trust apprenticeship lead to identify and promote training opportunities.
- Ensure good practice and successful service developments linked to Education and Training are celebrated and acknowledged including poster presentations and publishing results of projects.
- Accuracy check dispensed prescriptions ensuring compliance with medicines legislation.
- Carry out the stock control, dispensing, issuing, assembly, manufacture and procurement of pharmaceuticals in accordance with departmental procedures including regular dispensing of controlled drugs and unlicensed medicines
- Be a role model for junior technical staff and actively promote the role of the technician.
- Ensure medication is dispensed to meet agreed delivery times and to minimise waiting times for patients.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives to investigate extended roles for technical and support staff.

- Ensure an environment is created where staff feel valued and are provided with genuine opportunities for their development.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating and promoting standards of practice expected and creating energy and enthusiasm for service improvement.
- Ensure that all staff within the service are clear of their roles, the standards of performance expected and their objectives by regularly reviewing performance and objectives via appraisal process.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Education and Training. Ensure that staff have read and understood relevant SOPs and policies and kept up to date.

- Identify the training needs of technical staff and develop a relevant comprehensive and forward-thinking continuing education and development programme in line with the departmental appraisal system.
- Be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and coordinating a comprehensive structured induction to all aspects of pharmacy service for new staff and ensure that they receive this induction and suitable records are kept.
- Liaise with, develop, and coordinate suitable competency-based assessments for pharmacy staff.
- Supervise the Senior Pharmacy Technicians Education and Training in managing the NVQ/BTEC training process and rota for pre-registration technicians and ensure quality assurance is maintained in accordance with Health Education England standards for training and funding allocation.

- To respond positively and in a timely way to those changes which may occur and affect the nature, direction, and delivery of pharmacy services.
