Main duties of the job
? To provide professional, clinical support to nursing staff and the Multidisciplinary Team within the Outpatient Department.? To provide expert clinical care, to lead, co-ordinate and act as a resource for a team of staff at Band 6 and below.? To manage and co-ordinate activities across a range of areas within the Outpatient Department.? To fulfil and maintain the operational function of the Outpatient Department.The post holder will support and deputise for the Lead Nurse of the Outpatient Department and will take responsibility/accountability for the Outpatient Department across all sites in her/his absence.

Ensure appropriate utilisation of staff within clinical areas. According to need move staff to ensure appropriate skill mix for patient group attending individual clinical areas/clinics Ensure that resources are appropriately utilised to maximum effectiveness against workload and activity of the clinical areas. Contribute and participate towards the recruitment and retention of staff within the Outpatient Department.V3.0 (Nov 09) Ensure accidents and incidents including near misses are reported and recorded. Accept delegated responsibilities from Lead Nurse or Directorate Manager in order to assist in the overall objectives of the department. Actively participate in staff Personal Development Programmes. Be pro active in dealing with informal/formal complaints and changing practices accordingly. Co-ordinate the Outpatient Department across all sites/areas in the absence of the Lead Nurse. Ensure compliance with all Trust policies and guidelines. Be pro active and assist as required with achievement of Trust/NHS targets. Attend staff meetings and in the absence of the Lead Nurse attend senior staff meetings. Disseminate information to staff. Refer any issues that may involve counselling or disciplining of staff to the appropriate person. Actively manage sickness/absence monitoring and control. Have a responsibility for the safe management of the clinic areas and of ensuring the safety of staff and others. Liaise with the Trust Health and Safety advisor as appropriate. Report to Lead Nurse or Directorate Manager any identified actions required to ensure Health and Safety, which cannot be effected from their own resources.* The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.* The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.
Act as a clinical expert in the provision of support and advice to staff and members of the Multidisciplinary Team working within the Outpatient Department and other areas within the Trust. To provide expert clinical care within a range of clinical areas within the Outpatient Department.V3.0 (Nov 09) Instruct and demonstrate practical procedures. Responsible for the co-ordination of a range of clinical areas within the Outpatient Department, including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams/individuals/self. Promote and maintain a critical, analytical approach to the management and delivery of nursing care, ensuring a responsive approach to current issues. Act in the best interests of patients, ensuring a quality service is provided at all times. Demonstrate good interpersonal/communication skills in a multidisciplinary setting. Maintain close working relationships with medical staff and other members of the Multidisciplinary Team Ensure Trust clinical procedure guidelines and policies are adhered to. Promote and maintain effective, harmonious team dynamics and structures at all times. Act as an effective change agent within a range of clinical areas within the Outpatient Department. The post holder will at all times adhere to NMCs Professional Code of Conduct.
