We have an exciting opportunity for a well-motivated, dynamic, and experienced Physiotherapist to join the Major Trauma Centre Therapy Team.
Aintree Major Trauma Centre has been providing specialist life and limb-saving treatment for patients across Merseyside, Cheshire and the Isle of Man since 2012.
The therapy team provide acute specialist care on both the Major Trauma Ward and ITU, for patients who have experienced polytraumatic injuries. These can include, orthopaedic injuries, brain and spine trauma, chest trauma and amputations. As well as complex medical needs, Major Trauma patients can present with complex social and mental health needs, so you will work as part of a wider MDT including consultants, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, MHLT and social services.
The role requires excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills and a commitment to effective multidisciplinary team working and skill sharing. An ability to demonstrate assertion, flexibility and creativity with assessment and treatment planning and methods of service delivery are essential in this clinical environment.
Respiratory 'on call' competence is essential for this position.
Nb. If the static post is recruited to then there may be an opportunity for a rotational Band 6 physiotherapist post.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
To undertake comprehensive clinical assessment, treatment and discharge planning for polytrauma patients with complex medical, musculoskeletal, and neurological conditions including traumatic brain and spinal injuries.
Lead on respiratory management of patients and tracheostomy weaning where indicated.
. Undertake and support the Team with Complex Discharge Planning
Supporting the training and development of Junior members of staff within Major Trauma and wider therapies to develop respiratory, musculoskeletal and neurological skills through formal/informal training.
Support the Band 7 Therapists in leading a Major Trauma Therapy Team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, TAs and APs, providing clinical and pastoral supervision and completing annual workpal appraisals.
Participate in the clinical coordination role for the team.
Take an active role in audit/service delivery to enhance patient care.
Contribute to in-service training programmes.
Support Band 7 therapists in performance monitoring and management of the team including regular data collection and information gathering to contribute to monthly care group reports.

3. Support junior therapists to develop knowledge and skills regarding acute assessment, goal setting and discharge planning, ensuring high quality treatments are provided for a range of conditions on Major Trauma. This includes supporting in-service training delivery and competency sign off.
4. Formally/informally support University students within Major Trauma (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy).
5. Participate in the team clinical coordinator role; leading daily handover meetings and attending MDT boardrounds to review and support caseload management for the team.
6. Actively participate in Safety and Governance Meetings.
7. Develop excellent relationships with the wider MDT within LUHFT and community services.
8. Work flexibly, to support seven day service.
9. Demonstrate flexibility to support other therapy teams in times of need given acute pressures within the Trust.
