Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Registered General Nurse to work in the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Department which is part of a dynamic and truly customer focused Workforce & OD Directorate

This is an ideal opportunity for a nurse (with an interest in occupational health) to join the occupational health and wellbeing team. It is an opportunity to work in a very busy service and there is an expectation of cross-site working at other Trusts within the North West.

The hours are Monday - Friday 8.30am - 16.30pm

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as part of a team, hold a large daily caseload and is expected to run clinics on a daily basis within various Trusts that we support. The post holder will also support the specialist nurses, as well as undertaking routine occupational health activities (with appropriate training) including:

  • Immunisations
  • Venepuncture
  • Spirometry
  • Vision Screening
  • Audiometry
  • Pre-employment Health Assessments
  • Assist with the Blood Borne Virus Exposure Processes

Job responsibilities

  • Assist and undertake new employee health assessment for Occupational Health clients, advising managers of any recommendations relating to a candidates suitability against a specific risk assessment, supported by a Senior Occupational Health Adviser
  • Undertake immunisation programmes for Trust and Income Generation clients, at the clients own site when required. Maintain information on clients immunisation status. This is undertaken in line with the local Occupational Health Patient Group Directive and includes venepuncture as appropriate
  • Participate in the management of inoculation injuries supported by a Senior Occupational Health Advisor in line with Trust policy and Occupational Health standard operating procedures
  • In liaison with and at the request of the Senior Occupational Health Advisor undertake periodic health surveillance for Trust and Income Generation clients, at the clients own site when required, while still maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and advise a member of the senior Occupational Health clinical team of any areas of concern.
  • Provide advice to managers, employees and their representatives on issues relating to Occupational Health supported by the multidisciplinary Occupational Health team as necessary.
  • Provide initial confidential support and advice for employees following incidents such as inoculation injuries, substance abuse, bereavement, stress, infection control, violence to staff etc and refer onto or signpost to an appropriate support services.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Occupational Health Nurse arrange and co-ordinate and deliver health promotion activities advising individuals on issues such as smoking cessation and lifestyle screening. Will be required to present and train
