Job summary

Applications are invited for a full time Physician Associate to support the Liverpool Vascular & Endovascular Service (LiVES) which provides vascular surgical services in North Mersey. This is a new post which will be based in the hub at the Aintree University Hospital.

The vascular unit consists of 13 consultants, with supporting junior staff. Junior middle grade staff consists of 3 SpRs, 2 Clinical Fellows and a Research Fellow.

The unit supports a full range of arterial and venous work in close collaboration with interventional radiology. We operate a Consultant of the Week system in which 2 consultants each week are rostered to do ward rounds and deal with acute activity at the hub. We run a weekly planning meeting attended by all staff to facilitate management of the acute work.

Main duties of the job

Physician Associates will be expected to work alongside junior doctors and nurses to help deliver high standards of care. Physician Associates will receive close supervision, teaching, training and mentorship to embed core skills, knowledge and competencies. Physician Associates will provide expert assistance to Medical Workforce in their specialty and the wider multidisciplinary team, and will participate in all aspects of the team's activities as appropriate. They will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge and to assist in clinical teaching and supervision of colleagues and students.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree at 2:2 level or above
  • PG Dip in Physician Associate Studies from a UK PA Programme
  • Current and valid certification or re-certification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes registration on the UK Physician Associate Register (the PA Managed Voluntary Register)

Desirable

  • CPR (BLS), ALERT, ALS

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to implement and interpret policies and procedures
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit
  • Assist in the educational development of Physician Associate students through student shadowing and/or teaching
  • Awareness of current developments and initiatives in services appropriate to rotation
