Job summary

The Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) is a 10 bedded acute, fast paced environment located on the 1st floor of the New Royal. The unit was created to provide level 2 care for our respiratory patients, which can involve Non Invasive Ventilation, tracheostomy care, high flow and/or close monitoring.

The RSU is a specialised service within respiratory medicine and consists of 51 Respiratory beds ( RSU, 6C and 6D), a Respiratory Clinic and a clinical / procedure room. Providing acute respiratory care for patients with a wide variety of conditions.If you join our team you will have the opportunity to gain experience in acute respiratory nursing and develop skills in NIV (non-invasive ventilation), tracheostomy management and care, chest drains and more.We provide holistic care to acutely unwell patients and their families as well as those with a chronic respiratory illnesses who require frequent treatment. The wards treat a wide range of thoracic conditions. We care for patients admitted with lung cancer, asthma, COPD, TB, type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, Tracheostomies and PE'S. We work closely with our allied health professionals to provide excellent, safe care.

We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop professionally in this exciting domain of Respiratory medicine. During the move into our new hospital the service has expanded up to 10 beds. This supportive environment is excellent for those individuals wanting to development skills. Encouraging teaching and learning , and ensuring we are constantly providing evidence based practice, and providing quality care. The Unit welcomes and will support both newly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses. Some respiratory experience would be advantageous, but not essential. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.

This is a rotational post therefore successful candidates will be expected to day and night shifts.
