This is an exciting post where you would be involved in MDT working as part of the Diabetes Team, linking in with Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Consultants
Working as an Advanced Diabetes Dietitian will involve:
Dietary education for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes using a variety of methods such as webinars, face to face clinics, telephone/virtual clinics and group education
Harnessing new technologies and digital developments in Diabetes practice such as blood glucose data analysis in real time and insulin pumps
Knowledge and experience of carbohydrate counting and promoting patient self-care to improve diabetes outcomes for patients with Type 1 Diabetes
Involvement in audit, key performance indicators and service development
Awareness of relevant guidance and policies regarding the management of Diabetes and benchmarking the service against these guidelines
Main duties of the job
You will be supported with your personal development goals and have regular clinical supervision
You will work closely with Therapy Leads, Head Therapists and Diabetes teams to identify any quality issues in the service and provide education to staff and colleagues in your Specialist area. You will have the opportunity to contribute to Governance and Operational meetings within the Diabetes and Therapies Directorates
You will be based in the Diabetes Centre on the Aintree Hospital site and supervise a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian working within Knowsley Community Diabetes Service. The post also provides the opportunity to contribute to the supervision of Student Dietitians and Graduate Dietitians. You will also work closely with Diabetes Dietitians on the Royal site of Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Community Dietitians and Dietitians working within Liverpool Diabetes Partnership. You will also be part of a friendly and collaborative Dietetic Team across LUHFT with access to regular peer support through Band 7 peer meetings.
Previous clinical experience in Diabetes is essential. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a practical, forward thinking approach to service development and evaluation and the ability to work as part of a team.
