Job summary
To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements.
It will be anticipated that some mechanical duties will be undertaken as training and experience is gained.
Participation in the Trust's Estates tradesman on-call Rota to cover either site is also required.

Job responsibilities
Maintenance craftspersons will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialty. However, they will be progressively trained to acquire elements of each others skills with the intention of achieving a competent and flexible work force.

Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services.

Where necessary, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the hospitals fixed electrical installations and portable equipment so as to maintain a safe and reliable service.

To carry out electrical portable appliance testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and the Estates Department schedule of inspection.

Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and ensure completion of all necessary documentation in accordance with Estates Department policies.

Where instructed install and test new electrical installations in accordance with the current electrical regulations and hospital standards

When required advise others on the correct operation of equipment to which you are conversant.

To record work information as required for operation of the CAFM management system.

Wear the appropriate protective clothing and footwear, uniforms, safety wear and equipment as deemed appropriate to the job and as required by the Black Country Healthcare Trust, Estates Department.

Where necessary induct and instruct other staff on duties in support of your own.

When required give assistance and support to other trade disciplines within the Estates Department to ensure an efficient estates service is provided.

To become fully conversant with the function of all mechanical and electrical systems within the remit of the Estates Department.

When required provide assistance to the mechanical and building trades staff.

When required participate in the gritting and snow/ice clearance of the Hospital roads and pavements.

Be able to read, understand and work from engineering and architectural drawings.

To carry out all duties in a safe manner, having regard for the safety of others.

To undergo all necessary update and health & safety training

To carry out routine testing of essential systems and equipment e.g. fire alarm, nurse call systems, steam raising boiler plant, hospital generators, etc., recording results in accordance with Estates Department policy and procedures.

Become conversant with the hospitals Building Management System to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and reset.

Participation in response/emergency teams for fire, major incident and any other requiring an Estates Department input.

When required drive the Trust vehicles.

To assist in the upkeep of a small electrical material store.

To be responsible for the upkeep, tidiness and maintaining of a safe working environment in the electrical workshop and engineering plant rooms.

Where necessary undertake training and operate any computerized systems that are used within the Estates Department.

To liaise closely with all modern matrons, ward sisters and heads of departments with regards to electrical maintenance and other relevant estates matters.

When required oversee electrical contractors working on site (This may involve organizing the isolation of electrical circuits for work to be carried out, to include the issuing of relevant permits etc.)

To assist in maintaining the documentation associated with the Hospitals electrical systems.

The execution of any other duties as relevant to the Estates services, which may be allocated by management.

Be prepared to be available, within reason, to work at short notice, out of normal hours, in emergency situations.

- Basic education to GCSE/'O' Level in Maths and English or post secondary Education in a relevant field.
- City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in Electrical Installation Engineering or an equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation Engineering with AM2, or BTEC in Building Services Engineering.
Desirable
- IPAF, PASMA, Abrasive wheels, Asbestos awareness etc
- Relevant HTM CP appointment
