Job summary

A great opportunity for enthusiastic and a highly motivated staff to join our Digital Service Team.

We are looking to appoint a Senior Infrastructure Support Engineer who will be part of a team responsible for managing and maintaining the network and server infrastructure, data and voice services and providing third line technical support and consultation to our users. In addition, the team are involved in cyber security and cloud services.

The IT team are currently based at Penrose House, Heath Lane Hospital, Sandwell. The new base, date tbc, will be in Peartree Lane, Dudley (DY2 0UW).

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota when required.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibility of the postholder is to:

  • To communicate effectively with users, technical staff and project teams alike across all ability levels to interpret customer requests into practical, secure and resilient application of the systems.
  • To work on Business As Usual (BAU) tasks related to existing infrastructure and services.
  • To work on infrastructure projects in order to develop and improve the current systems, platforms and infrastructures.
  • Provide technical guidance to other members of the Digital Services team to enable them to provide support to users within the organisation.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide high quality third line technical support, to manage and maintain the network and server infrastructure, data and voice services, manage Trust Cyber stance and provide expert technical input incorporating, advice, expertise, consultation, coaching and mentoring, to customers and team colleagues respectively, across Black Country Health Care NHS Foundation Trust. Working within the engineering support team (3rd line), delivering IT services and specialist support to customers of the BCHFT DDaT department.

Provide specialist advice across a number of system areas such as; Cisco switches, HP, Dell, Extreme, PowerOn, SolarWinds, UPS, and FortiGate solutions and Fortinet firewalls.

Responsible for strategic planning of the IT infrastructure within specialised areas to ensure it remains in support and fit for purpose. To manage and deliver projects for both internal infrastructure upgrades and decommissions, as well as new services to end users.

To analyse complex data from system logs to produce regular service reports and make recommendations on appropriate action to be taken in response to trends found within that data.

As part of a team that oversees the day-to-day management of the infrastructure technologies, its maintenance and security, following ITIL standards to ensure systems availability and consistency of service.

To support the maintenance, installation and configuration of IT Services.

To work closely with the Trusts IT Systems suppliers to ensure that their services are delivered in accordance with Trust and NHS IT standards and to expected deadlines.
