Job summary

  • Bank Health Care Support Worker - Band 3

    We have an opportunity for Band 3 Bank Health Care Support Workers to join our Team to assist and support our nursing provision. Successful candidates will work across our Service Areas (Sandwell, Dudley & Walsall and Wolverhampton).

    Applicants should have previous experience as a Healthcare Support worker, have excellent communication skills and will need to be able to work on your own and also as part of a team. You will also need to be flexible as you may be working across a number of wards or areas.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in basic care and assessment of the patient as support to, and under the supervision of, a registered nurse/senior support staff.
  • To follow individualised care and therapeutic programmes for patients under the instruction of the nursing staff/senior support staff.
  • To provide support to patients with their personal care.
  • To be informed and aware of the patients clinical condition and individual circumstances to ensure the care and comfort of clients.
  • To promote communications and act as an advocate for patients who have experienced difficulty in communicating.
  • To contribute to the patients plan of treatment by communicating any observations of patients behaviours to the Care co-ordinator or nurse-incharge during periods of duty.
  • To work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote quality care.
  • Work in collaboration with the patient, involving them at all times with their care.

Job responsibilities

  • To support the qualified staff in the admission and discharge procedure. To ensure the relevant policies in respect of patients property and valuables are maintained. To support staff in promoting recreation/leisure amongst patients.
  • To contribute to the promotion of patients education and well-being.
  • To monitor and encourage and record patients in their consumption of food and drink.
  • Accompany appropriate patients of site as and when required.
  • To assist in the maintenance of a safe environment.
  • To participate in the observation of patients at risk.
  • To promote and maintain beneficial relationships between relatives/patients and carers in liaison with other appropriate agencies.
  • To participate in all projects and research schemes to improve the quality of the patients life.
  • To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and all other policies laid down by Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To attend mandatory courses/lectures/in-house training, as required.
  • To develop skills and knowledge in the area of mental health care by undertaking mandatory NVQ Level II training.
  • Infection prevention & control is everybodys responsibility, it is a requirement for all Trust staff to comply with all trust infection control policies and procedures.
