Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for passionate Occupational Therapists to join our forward thinking perinatal community teams in the Black Country. We have 2 positions available at the current time; 1 position (33.75 hours per week) is available to work within our Sandwell and Dudley Perinatal Team and 1 position (30 hours per week) is available to work within our Walsall and Wolverhampton Perinatal Team.

This is an exciting opportunity for Occupational therapists who are interested in Perinatal Mental health, and wish to develop specialist knowledge and practice in this rewarding field.

The Perinatal service supports women with moderate to severe mental health difficulties during the antenatal and post-natal period. This may include women who have a previous history of serious mental health difficulties or women who are experiencing mental health difficulties for the first time.

Some previous experience of working with this group would be an advantage but is not essential. Our team is developing and evolving, support, training and CPD opportunities are available via the Trust appraisal system.

Main duties of the job

  • As part of the role you will be required to provide assessment and intervention that will identify barriers and support women in the perinatal period to achieve functional goals.
  • You will be required to manage a caseload of women who are in the perinatal period with moderate, severe and enduring mental health needs, offering occupational therapy interventions where mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning and who have complex occupational needs.
  • You will provide occupational therapy advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • You will contribute to the planning, development, provision and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy offer within the Specialist Perinatal Service as well as contribute to audit, standard setting, research, and development.
  • You will provide professional supervision of students as well as training to students, staff colleagues and other agencies.
