Job summary
We are a low secure unit for those with learning disabilities who may also have forensic histories and be detained under the Mental Health Act. Our unit can provide care for up to 15 patients and they are housed over 3 units. Each unit has a nurse and a number of trained support workers each shift dependant on the risks at that point in time.
You will be the named nurse for a number of the patients and working closely with the MDT to provide on going care and support that allows the patient and their loved ones to be involved in the decision making of their everyday lives wherever possible.
You will need to be a self starter who is looking to consolidate learning and possibly be looking for opportunities to develop your career in the specialist forensic pathway for learning disabilities. There are no 2 days the same and you need to be able to adapt and respond whilst considering the risks and challenges to the wider population,

Main duties of the job
To work according to the NMC code of conduct and in a collaborative, least restrictive manner to support our patients in their everyday tasks and long term rehabilitation to be able to be consider to moving into a community.
To support the unit managers to improve quality and governance of the unit and look at how you can contribute to improving patient experience.
To act at all times in a manner that enhances the reputation of the service, particularly when dealing with relatives, visitors and the local community.
To plan the nursing care by means of individualised contracts of care with the co-operation and involvement of patients and relatives, where appropriate, taking into account the medical diagnosis.
To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of nursing care.
