Job summary

The Families Come First service are seeking to recruit 2 (for an initial 12 months) Children and Young People's Wellbeing Practitioners to work within this newly developing Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out in-depth assessments including risk assessments to ensure the children and young people receive the most appropriate care and intervention required to support their needs.

About us

Families Come First is a service provided by Dudley Local Authority and aims to provide support plans for parents and carers as well as children. Families Come First is a Child in Need service within Dudley Council providing support to children up to the age of 17, alongside their parents and/or carers.

The service aimsto keep families together, to repair or improve relationships at home and in the community, to connect families to their local communities, and to build upon each family's existing strengths. The post holder will have a high level of knowledge and expertise of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Complete initial assessments, plans of therapy and implements those interventions under guidance.
  • Assess and support children / young people and their families who present with common mental health and emotional difficulties
  • To deliver brief evidence-based interventions, working collaboratively towards goals and areas of change
  • collaboratively develop a psychological formulation which not only helps direct the flow of therapy but highlights areas of resilience (internal and external)
  • To complete accurate and relevant assessments of risk.
  • Provide a range of information and support for evidence-based psychological interventions. This may include guided self-help, direct therapy, useful local services and information around pharmaceutical treatments. The work may be face-to-face, over the telephone or other media e.g. e-mail
  • Assist in the co-facilitation of skills workshops, based on CBT principles
  • Produce accurate reports for a range of audiences
  • Supporting families and strengthening networks To work with direct line management and clinical supervision to safely manage caseload
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals
  • To work ecologically with children and families
  • At all times, is non-judgemental, promotes emotional health and well-being and respects diversity
  • With support from clinical supervision, keeps up to date with set evidence-based recommendations and guidelines (National Institute for Clinical Evidence N.I.C.E)
  • Use clinical supervision to inform practice
  • Be aware and keep up-to-date with advancements in treatment of common mental health conditions

Essential

  • Evidence of ability to study successfully at undergraduate level or the equivalent
  • Children and Young People's Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Qualification from accredited training provider / Level 5 in education in health, social care or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Psychology or other health /social care/youth related undergraduate degree
  • Other relevant postgraduate degree

  • Experience of working with children and/or young people and families
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the role of the family in supporting children and young people's emotional well-being
