Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will be part of a team who work with the parents of families under the Family Safeguarding Model, which was launched in Walsall in September 2020. This fresh approach allows practitioners to focus on the whole family andmakes it easier for parents to access all the support they need from within one team, to help them deal with the complex issues of domestic abuse, mental health and drug/alcohol abuse that harm their lives and those of their children. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will work directly with the parent providing help and support to create lasting change. In your role you will demonstrate your ability to support and provide a level of containment to some of the most complex of clients and may assist in opening pathways to secondary care where required.
The model requires the use of Motivational Interviewing to harness motivation to change and make it easier to access help. By using motivational practice to enable many more parents to accept help, Family Safeguarding provides specially designed individual and group work programs to change abusive behaviours, improve parental mental health and reduce harmful substance misuse. There will be an expectation that group work is facilitated and undertaken with those parents who are assessed as appropriate participants.
The post holder will also expect to undertake regular face to face and home visits to those they are working directly with or in alternative settings where deemed to be appropriate. This may be jointly with social work colleagues and others.
You will come together as a multi-disciplinary team on a monthly basis for Group Supervision, this will allow you to reflect, analyse, and develop plans, and you will specifically provide progress updates in respect of the adult client you will be working with.
Post holders will work closely with the Clinical Psychologist to contribute to the service approaches and interventions in a service wide manner.
Team members will actively participate in and support the development of new ways of working which will strengthen and support the co-ordination of a whole systems approach for response to identified client need. Members will also be involved in regular service evaluation, audit and research initiatives.
