Job summary

The post holder will provide the service of ECT to patients with mental health problems within the ECT clinic setting undertaking clinical and functional duties within the ECT clinic. This will include taking responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the ECT clinic, working collaboratively with all disciplines associated with ECT, Trust wide.

As a qualified Nurse there is an expectation for the post holder to manage the ECT clinic in the absence of the Band 6 ECT Lead Nurse. They will provide co-ordination, implementation, assessments and review for those with mental health problems in the ECT setting.

Main duties of the job

  1. During the span of duty the ECT Nurse will be responsible for Health Care Assistants, Student Nurses. Numbers may vary depending upon the clinical need. They will provide clinical support to staff. There is no budgetary responsibility.
  2. The ECT Nurse will assess patients attending ECT for their capacity and physical health status; assisting the anaesthetist and medics in their duties. They will be present during the administration of treatment and monitor patient during recovery. This includes documentation in ECT patient file.
  3. Following clinic the ECT Nurse will document information using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and assist in cleaning schedule duties, clinical stores ordering and correspondence with members of the multidisciplinary team, as required.
  4. ECT nurses will also be involved in holding career/patient ECT monthly support groups and follow up appointments of patients after receiving a course of ECT treatment.
