Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced doctor to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. These are fixed term positions for 6-12 months, available from February/March 2023, within a tier of doctors who provide 24/7 middle grade cover for the 60,000 patients who attend our ED each year.
As one of the UKs busiest Paediatric Emergency Departments we see a broad case-mix of common and specialist conditions and our Trust is the designated Paediatric Major Trauma Centre within the West Midlands Trauma Network.
20% of hours within the job plans for these posts will be available to work on and deliver world class, high level projects within the post holders chosen fields. Potential subject areas for projects will include education/simulation, trauma, quality improvement, research and integrated care.
You will be part of a friendly and dedicated team of 9 Consultants, 5 Specialty Doctors/Senior Clinical Fellows (including this post), 4 senior Specialist Trainees (from Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics), 9 ST2/3s, 2 Clinical Fellows and 3 Teaching Fellows. We are also proud of our ongoing development of Advanced Nursing Practice within the ED.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be an integral part of the clinical team and will carry out the following duties:
Reception, examination, diagnosis, resuscitation, treatment and management of patients in the Emergency Department until appropriate transfer to inpatient facility or discharge home.
Supervision of more junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.
Participation in the Trust Major Incident Procedure.
Participation in delivering teaching to undergraduate students attached to the Department.
Participation in clinical audit and governance and research within the department.
Development of clinical guidelines.
Attendance at departmental meetings as appropriate.
Development of a role in management, leadership and training.
Participation in annual NHS appraisal.
Project work will be supervised by the relevant ED leads and early discussion with them on appointment is encouraged.
