We are excited to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic,motivated Assistant Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner to work full-time within our SLT team at Parkview Clinic in Birminghamfor afixed term12-month period. Parkview Clinic is an inpatient mental health facility for young people aged 11-18 years with significant psychiatric difficulties.

Althoughourserviceis notspecifically for autistic young people, a high number of young people admitted are autistic. As a service we havethroughthe National Autistic Society,achievedSpecialistAutism Accreditation Status. This means, we areextremely committed to providinghigh quality, person-centered caretailored tothis vulnerable cohort ofpatientsand that weaim to ensurethat our interactions,environment,policies and proceduresare autismaffirming and autisminformed. Thesuccessful applicantwill take a key role in supportingpractice,projectsanddevelopments with this in mind.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant SLT practitioner will: -

  • Work as part of the Inpatient Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team, alongside other therapists and members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to support and provide a specialist SLT service to, young people with significant, complex mental health difficulties and underlying social communication and language needsincluding autism.
  • Manage, under the supervision of registered SLTs, an independent caseload of patients, reporting on progress, identifying and escalating any concerns and adjusting plans accordingly, within agreed protocols.
  • Actively support the service at Parkview Clinic to further develop and embed their processes and procedures in line with their Specialist Autism Accreditation Status.
  • Carryout non-clinical duties including housekeeping, health and safety, clerical and support tasks.
