SHO in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Job summary

Please note, that this is a 4 month post starting in December 2025 to cover a deanery trainee gap. There may be a possibility for extension if the service has future gaps. Please note that candidates not able to start in time to cover all or most of this gap may not be able to be considered.

This post is suitable for trainees in Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine who want further experience in emergency care delivered in a tertiary children's hospital Emergency Department setting. Applicants for the post should have at least experience in either paediatrics or emergency medicine (of which at least 6 months was within the UK).

The placement is well supervised with support from Consultants in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, general paediatricians and all the hospital specialists. At the same time, the post holder is allowed the independence of managing a wide range of common paediatric problems including running resuscitations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment and management of all patients who present as emergencies to the department, except those who have been referred directly to the RMO or on-call specialty teams. Close liaison with the medical and surgical specialists is an important aspect of good clinical practice and the post holder is expected to maintain the established working relationships.
