Specialty Doctor - Birmingham Early Intervention in Psychosis

Job summary

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is seeking to recruit a Specialty Doctor in adult psychiatry to work in an integrated community multi-disciplinary team with the Birmingham Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (16-35 years). There are two vacancies available, one within our East team and second one within our West team.

The Specialty Doctor will have a central role within an MDT context in delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for a caseload of complex patients and their families, as well as contribute to providing psychiatric & medical risk management. The post holder will:

Main duties of the job

1. To work closely with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate in providing a comprehensive Community service for the patient population.

2. To provide a community based service for the assessment, treatment and continuing care of children and adolescents suffering from psychiatric and emotional disorders, within the East area of Birmingham.

3. To work alongside consultants and the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of services for this area and, in particular, to provide assessment and evaluation of cases where a psychotic disorder is suspected.

4. To consult with his/her senior medical colleagues where further help with complex assessments is needed.

Qualifications /Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a community mental health setting.
  • Able to manage duties under the MHA, including assessment of patients in Place of Safety detained under Section 136.
