Are you an experienced Medical Secretary? Are you looking for a challenge in a Medical Secretarial role? Then come and join us at the Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital. We have an exciting opportunity of a Medical Secretary role in the BSC department based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who relishes a challenge and is keen to demonstrate their skills and abilities in using their own initiative. This role is very demanding and applicants need to be self-motivated and possess an RSA/OCR level II qualification (or equivalent). Desirably you will have an AMSPAR Diploma, or medical secretarial experience. You must enjoy working within multi-disciplinary teams and have the ability to relate to children, parents and members of the public, complemented by excellent organisational and communication skillsYour key role will be managing multiple consultants and their workload. You will need waiting list management experience. You will work closely with the medical secretaries within the team. This role is essential to the department and you will need to be self-motivated and highly organised and enthusiastic. This role can be demanding and flexibility and dedication is a necessity. You must enjoy working within a multi-disciplinary team and have the ability to prioritise your work load by having excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

A Medical Secretary is an essential and very important role. This person will manage waiting lists for their own consultants inpatient and outpatient waiting lists and inpatient waiting lists for consultants across BSC, set up and book patients into clinics, book daycase and inpatient episodes, organise their dairy, minute take for meetings when needed, type clinic letters and answer patient phone calls. This role assists the consultants in providing an excellent pathway taking the patient from the initial referral through their treatment pathway. This post will also help cover when other secretaries within the team are on annual leave.
